FAREWELL OPEN-HOUSE<br />
The Ratslaffs and Palmers leave us soon. We're having a farewell tea & dessert potluck this Saturday afternoon 3.30 - 5.30 pm. Please join us if you can. The Chapman's address is 6523 Salish Drive, Vancouver.<br />
<br />
CHOIR & REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE<br />
We have many guests in the service on Sunday. Please consider coming early to help host parents, family & friends of the choristers. They're arriving at UC at 9.00 am. Please also "pack the pews" since we have to fit 100+ extra people into the sanctuary. The service will start punctually because the families will go in early to get good seats, so please be sure to be seated before 10.00 am. Let's honour our gracious God by honouring the guests he brings in!<br />
<br />
PRE SERVICE PRAYER<br />
There will be prayer from 9.15 to 9.45 in my office before the service. This will be a regular weekly event from now on.<br />
<br />
Please remain prayerful as the weekend approaches. We can expect spiritual opposition but we know that OUR GOD REIGNS!!!<br />

We have a few specific needs for this Sunday's special Remembrance Day service (with the choir performance).<br />
<br />
Needs:<br />
1. A few very large black table cloths to cover the Communion table, and one red table cloth or runner.<br />
2. A few extra hands to help usher people to their seats and remind people to pack in tightly (need to arrive by 9am).<br />
<br />
If you have table clothes to lend (even just one of the few that are needed) or can help, please let us know as soon as possible.<br />

A note of reminder about two events happening this weekend:<br />

1. Happening on the Hill, this Sat Sept 13, 12:30-5pm<br />
- We are still in need of volunteers to help bless this community by serving coffee and cinnamon buns. Meet at the church at 12:30 to help carry supplies to the park, or if you can't come until later, just show up at the park beside the McDonalds at University Village. We'll have UC t-shirts for everyone to wear!<br />
- One or two people are also needed to come early and start brewing the coffee. If you are available, please reply and let me know.<br />

2. UC's Back to School BBQ, after service on Sunday<br />
A reminder to bring food to share! If your last name begins with a letter between A and L, please bring a salad to share. If your last name begins with a letter between M and Z, please bring a dessert to share.<br />

- We are still in need of childcare for the Mom's group on Tuesday mornings, if you or someone you know is interested, please let me know.<br />

God is at work! The new season "officially" starts this Sunday yet we've had a constant stream of visitors through the summer and people are already signing up and settling in amongst us. Praise God for the warmth and energy many visitors have experienced as they walked in on Sunday mornings. Keep your light shining!<br />
<br />
This Sunday is likely to be even busier than usual after the summer "lull". Consider how God can use you to bless the visitors He brings in over the coming weeks, and be in prayer for them. Some suggestions:<br />
<br />
- Come a bit early to welcome and greet new people<br />
- Invite them to sit with you<br />
- Consider hosting someone for lunch<br />
- Please sit in the front few rows to open up space at the back<br />
- Be your friendly, gracious selves as you tune into others<br />
<br />
The preparations for the RUMMAGE SALE have gone great. Thank you to everyone who has come to help. Last chance to clear out your attics and basements is tomorrow. We will finish sorting and pricing from 2-8pm...<br />

Here's some other good news:<br />

CHILDREN'S CHOIR<br />
There are already 58 kids signed up and paid. We can only cope with 60, and so far we have 15 children auditioning for the 2 remaining spots. Praise God and pray for wisdom in how to cope!<br />

ANVIL<br />
Many faith stories have come out of this summer! You'll be hearing about these in an upcoming service. Please pray for those who have come to faith.<br />
<br />
HOME GROUPS<br />
We may have 15 groups or more as things get off the ground. We're still connecting with newcomers who are settling in. Pray for the Holy Spirit's oversight as we plan.<br />

CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED<br />
We have a strong team already in place to guide this ministry for the 10 weeks starting on Wednesday Sept 24th. We've hardly begun promoting it and already 2 seekers have signed up. Please pray - this is sure to face spiritual attack and opposition.<br />

PAIS - U. HILL<br />
The Friday social "mini" was a great success last year and the school has confirmed three "minis" for this term! The Friday social will continue, and we are launching a "photography" mini with Charles Patrick and a "conservation" mini with Peter Lawrance. A possible fourth "soccer" mini with Robin Fronemeyer is also in process. The teachers are super excited and actively partnering with us. Pray that we can bless the socks off the kids who participate!<br />

SPANISH CLASSES<br />
There are 35 people signed up. Some are not regular UC attenders, so it's great to be making connections in the neighbourhood. Pray that the classes are a blessing to everyone.<br />

IMPACT SEMINAR (Sat Oct 4th)<br />
If you do nothing else this term, do this! Mark your calendars now. We have arranged with David MacFarlane from the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada to come and workshop with us on what is going on in Canada demographically and spiritually, and to help us work out how we can become increasingly impactful in our neighbourhood. We've invited other Westside Churches to come and participate. Already two have confirmed. Imagine 10 Westside churches each doing 2 or 3 things to impact their neighborhoods. That's 20-30 new initiatives to make God known! Pray. Pray. Pray.<br />
