Dear Family,

Carl had an extensive battery of tests on Wednesday. He has developed macular degeneration in his left eye (the one that was operated on), which is preventing the return of full sight that was hoped for. He is beginning a series of further treatments, involving both laser surgery and medication, which will continue for several months. If successful, this should slow the process, and possibly restore some of the lost sight. However, this problem, unlike cataract and corneal problems, is at best controllable rather than reversible.

As frustrating and irritating as all this can be, Carl has the confidence that he will be able to see whatever he needs to see for whatever tasks God has for him. Please continue to pray for his healing and for God's grace to be sufficient for him (and Betsy) in the struggles.
